The SHCS has been instrumental in setting up international collaborations (e.g. ART-CC and D:A:D) for questions which cannot be answered with Swiss Data alone.
Together with the Copenhagen HIV Programme, the SHCS established in 1994 the HIV Cohorts Data Exchange Protocol (HICDEP, www.hicdep.org). This standard is currently widely used for HIV Cohort collaborations.
The Swiss HIV Cohort Study (SHCS), established in 1988, is a nationwide prospective longitudinal cohort study enrolling persons with HIV in Switzerland. It is a collaboration of all Swiss university hospitals, large cantonal hospitals with affiliated laboratories, and affiliated smaller hospitals and private physicians caring for persons with HIV.
The overarching aim of the SHCS is to improve health of persons living with HIV through clinical, translational and basic science studies, and to strengthen collaborative and transdisciplinary research.
The Swiss Mother and Child HIV Cohort Study (MoCHiV) is integrated into the SHCS. It aims at preventing mother-to-child transmission and enrolls pregnant women with HIV and their children.
