The successful and longstanding existence of the SHCS is dependent on a modern database system and, increasingly important, an easy way to gather the huge amount of data. Unfortunately, the current infrastructure is old and reaching its limits. With todays established IT facilities including security issues it is possible to achieve the important steps for a sustained modernization of the outdated infrastructure. The data collection must be improved towards a modern and well-accepted user-centered tool. The first step is already done: the most complex but increasingly important table of antiretroviral and non-antiretroviral medication including vaccinations and adherence could be remodeled. Further steps are to come. The paper questionnaires will ultimately be available in a decentralized online tool. This step will fulfill the requirement of a modern and flexible tool for the collection of the increasing amount of data in the future.
