Objectives

The main objective, for the next grant period, is to continue to perform and facilitate a wide range of timely research projects of high quality through a national network of research integrated in the management of the patients, and through interdisciplinary collaboration with all interested partners, including public health authorities, patient's association, industry and international initiatives.

The objectives of the SHCS project can be divided in 2 parts :

Core research project :

• Maintain a Cohort representative of the HIV population currently living in Switzerland. This requires the continuous recruitment of HIV infected patients referred to a participating outpatient clinic or private physician.
• Conduct systematic follow-up with standardized data collection of clinical and laboratory results, integrated to the management of the patients for the mutual benefit of the patients and of the research project.
• Maintain the infrastructure that facilitates sample acquisition and the execution of research projects by providing data and stored blood samples
• Maintain and improve the high standard of care of HIV infected patients in Switzerland.

Nested research projects :

• Identify actuality research topics, find the most adequate study design and the most qualified investigators in the SHCS, as well as outside collaborations if needed.
• Ensure a rapid evaluation procedure of research projects, allow their launching without delay and follow their implementation.
• Disseminate the research results to the medical community by encouraging scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals and reviews in Swiss medical journals.
